Clinical Educators utilize the content of the courses to help the student access learning. They may help them adapt their study habits for different types of exams, practice critical reading, and\/or help with academic organization and planning.\u00a0 Educators adapt their teaching to each individual student\u2019s strengths and needs.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical Educators are also advisors, working alongside students to make short and long term academic choices. They help students craft schedules that maximize their strengths. Students are also assigned advisors in their declared major.<a id=\"group-individual\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Group and Individual Counseling<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The counseling component of the program enhances our team approach to academic success.\u00a0 All students are assigned a counselor and counseling sessions are optional.\u00a0 Students can meet with their assigned counselor four times per semester. Depending on availability and clinical assessment, additional meetings may be scheduled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Group workshops are offered throughout the academic year, focusing on a variety of topics including executive functioning skills, adjustment to college life, vocational planning, and transitional workshops (high school to college) , and (college to career).<a id=\"writing\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Writing Courses<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Learning Resource Program provides an opportunity for first-year students to take two credit-bearing writing courses taught by professors in the program:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expository Writing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Writing and Rhetoric\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These courses complete specific university requirements. The small class sizes, inclusive teaching approach, and opportunity for practice and feedback, helps students transition to the kind of writing and thinking required for college scholarship.<a id=\"campus-ally\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Campus Ally Program<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To foster and support the social adjustment to campus, all first year students are assigned a \u201cCampus Ally\u201d.\u00a0 The campus allies are experienced LRP students who\u00a0 meet with their assigned students at the start of their first semester. Formal contacts are initiated in the fall, and continue through the first half of the fall semester. <a id=\"parents\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Information for Parents and Families<\/h2>\n<p>We encourage all of our students to develop independent skills so that they can advocate for themselves, but also realize that parents may need guidance as to how to support their young adults through this process.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We offer parent support groups through the academic year as well as during the summer program.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDrop In\u201d parent sessions with the Directors are offered during the Fall semester to address parental concerns or questions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Services for Students Clinical Educators (Learning Specialists) All students are assigned a Clinical Educator and have regularly scheduled one-on-one sessions with them.
